Title III
What is WIDA and it's standards?
The WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards Framework is designed to support multilingual learners from kindergarten through grade 12. It focuses on fairness and recognizes the strengths, contributions, and potential of scholars who speak multiple languages. This framework helps educators plan lessons and assessments that support both language learning and academic success based on the SC State Standards.
Each year, multilingual scholars are required to take the ACCESS for ELLs test. This assessment measures their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English, providing valuable information to guide instruction and support their language development.
ACCESS Scores are reported in terms of "Levels of Proficiency."
Your child’s ACCESS test results help the school and government understand how well scholars are learning English. Teachers use the results to decide how best to support your child, and they also show how much progress your child is making.
ACCESS scores show how well a student understands and uses English. Each scholar is placed into one of six levels, based on WIDA’s English language development scale. These levels help teachers understand how much English support a scholar needs.
