History and Mission
Legacy Early College is a public charter school located in Greenville’s West End. Legacy's education model combines academic excellence, nutrition, and fitness. Legacy is a school of mastery, serves only nutritious meals and is the only public school in SC that provides daily PE for every scholar. Scholars are also taught core social, relationship, and emotional skills.
In a school climate where caring, support, and high expectations are the norm, scholars are able to focus on academic and physical fitness in preparation for a bright future every day.
Legacy Early College is a school that reflects both the West End renewal and the Sterling community tradition of pride and excellence. Here, a progressive curriculum based on “Common Core” state standards is delivered via a nationally recognized system for teaching and learning. Here too, community and family are essential parts of the learning environment and interaction with others is based on a code of traditional values and respect. Here, instruction is delivered through technology-based educational tools like Promethean Boards, Aquos Boards, iPads, and hand-held devices for mathematics like the TI-nspire navigation system. Here, creativity and expression are encouraged not only in music and art classes, but also in traditional academics.
Our school originated in 2010 through the vision of businessman William Brown, a lifelong advocate of education. Today Legacy occupies the site of the historic Parker High School and the former Greenville County Fine Arts Center.
To offer a quality, rigorous, and relevant educational program leading to college graduation and empowering underserved urban students to become productive, healthy, principled citizens in a changing society.
To see every child to and through college.
Legacy Early College has four divisions on three campuses in West Greenville. The 4K Center begins to build our scholars' academic foundation to success. The Elementary School nurtures this foundation for scholars in grades K5-4. The Middle School provides a seamless transition for scholars in grades 5-8. Our Early College High School completes the journey by preparing scholars for college and careers via a customized learning approach that centers on scholars qualifying to take college courses at local colleges while attending our high school.
Legacy Early College’s teaching and learning is guided by ADEPT; the Assisting, Developing, and Evaluating of Professional Teaching. We strongly believe that with a balance of challenge and support, all scholars will flourish. Our small class sizes, personalized learning experiences and support programs enable all scholars to be successful. Our educators believe every scholar at Legacy Early College will attend and graduate from college.
