Nic Claxton joined Legacy in 2013, where he dedicated years to honing in on his basketball skills while achieving academic excellence. After graduating from Legacy, Nic attended the University of Georgia, where he continued to develop his talent on and off the court. Two years later, he was drafted into the NBA by the Brooklyn Nets. Nic has recently signed his third contract with the Nets, on Legacy soil.

An exemplary scholar at Legacy Early College, Irving Oliver will graduate as the valedictorian of the Legacy’s class of 2023 and a recipient of Gates scholarship. This prestigious award is not only a testament to the dedication and hard work that Irving has put into his academic pursuits but also an attestation of our mission and vision, which is to offer a quality, rigorous, and relevant education leading to college graduation and to empower underserved urban students to become productive, healthy, principled citizens in a changing society.

“I was looking at the people in my life who were really successful, and one of them is Mr. Brown, who was a CPA. So then I thought, accounting is a gen ed course, and I went ahead and took that to see how it is. I think it was the hardest class I’ve ever taken, but it was really fun. I got a good grade and thought, ‘Ok, I’ve got the hang of this.’ Now I want to see how people do this in real life. I knew Mr. Brown had a firm, so I asked him about an internship.”
