MESSage from the provost
Dear Legacy Early College Families,
This is a great year to be a Legacy Lion!
I am thrilled to welcome you and your scholars to the College Center, where our team is dedicated to fulfilling Legacy's vision to see every child "to and through" college. The College Success Team works towards this goal in three interconnected ways:
- Dual Enrollment College Courses
Your scholars have the opportunity to take rigorous college courses while still in high school. The Lion's DEN magnet program provides a structured pathway to earn 60+ college transfer credits and an Associate degree concurrently with a high school diploma. Last year, seventeen of our graduates achieved this incredible milestone. Whether scholars are earning an Associate degree, or dipping their toe into college classes for the first time during their senior year, there is zero cost to scholars. Legacy covers all tuition, textbooks, and transportation. Cynthia Oliver, our Dual Enrollment Coordinator, assists all dual enrollment scholars, from registering for classes to conducting weekly academic check-ins to ensure they are fully supported in their college coursework. - College Transition
Navigating the transition from high school to college can be challenging. You and your scholar will not be alone! Shakira Cohen and Jean Shew are our College Success Counselors who will be working with all seniors and parents to guide them in college applications, completing the FAFSA, applying for scholarships, and choosing the best college fit for each scholar’s unique circumstances and career plans. - Alumni Support
“To and through college” means that Legacy does not just graduate scholars from high school and hope for the best. Bria Jackson, our Alumni Coordinator, helps our graduates transition from high school to college, and follows up with them until they earn their college degree. She offers practical assistance to Alumni when they face obstacles to completing college. She also assists in ensuring Alumni remain eligible for scholarships.
Whether your scholar is stepping into their very first college class this year, exploring college options, or putting the final touches on a scholarship application, our team is here to support them every step of the way.
We look forward to building a partnership with your family this year to make your scholar's college dreams a reality!
Sincerely,
Jeff Taylor

Scholars are placed in demanding, rigorous academic courses.
Each scholar's program of study will have a strong academic core including mathematics, science, language arts and history. Scholars also develop critical technology skills needed for research, written and oral communication tools, advanced study, and job readiness. South Carolina Academic Achievement Standards are used as a basis to develop curriculum frameworks and learning standards for each academic area.
